#ICONQUER WALKING CONNECTION KUMARA MACLEOD ZIP#
From the beginning our concept was to create a community of like-minded people who enjoy walking, hiking, being outside, and for many, traveling and exploring some of the world’s greatest destinations by foot, kayak, hot air balloon or occasional zip line.īeing active and enjoying life is at the very core of who we are and what we do. So in 1989 Jo Ann quit Nike and Gene left a national marketing and management company and together we founded The Walking Connection. Always adventuresome and active, we decided to make it our life’s work. By that, we mean not living life sitting on a couch and watching it go by on a television screen, or staying so close to home that we could only dream about what the rest of the world was like. On your last day you can walk Galapagos Safari Camp at leisure or enjoy the sunrise from our viewpoint before your airport transfer.Ĭompany owners Gene and Jo Ann Taylor have a genuine passion for active living. At the far end of the bay there is a large, mangrove lagoon, rich in wildlife and ideal for swimming. There is a good trail to get there, with some very impressive cacti along the way. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing at Tortuga Bay, which is a wonderful long white sandy beach. Take a tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station in the morning, followed by lunch in one of Puerto Ayora’s vibrant restaurants. Kayaking and mountain biking are optional activities. After lunch you will visit Garrapatero Beach, where the contrast of mangroves, black lava, white sand and turquoise water, along with its birdlife and flamingo lagoon, is magnificent.

It is home to a number of endemic plants, as well as seven subspecies of finch and the vermilion flycatcher. At 490m above sea level, Cerro Mesa offers spectacular views and boasts the largest crater on Santa Cruz Island. In the morning you will be driven to the eastern part of the island. Alternatively, if you are SCUBA certified, we can replace one or more day trips with diving excursions. The Galapagos Marine Reserve is the second largest marine reserve in the world, and snorkeling off the boat is a highlight of the trip. Each island has its own unique natural habitat, and you will be guided through the evolutionary phenomena of your destination. Your afternoon will conclude at Galapagos Safari Camp, with a sunset cocktail followed by dinner.ĭays 2, 3 & 4: Cruising to a neighbouring islandĪfter an early wake-up call, a boat will take you to one of the neighbouring islands: North Seymour, Bartolomé, Plazas, Santa Fé, Floreana or Isabela. At the Tortoise Reserve you will experience the emblematic giant tortoises in their natural habitat, in addition to the abundant bird life of the highlands. You will then have the opportunity to explore the area’s vegetation and microclimates, as well as pit craters and lava tunnels, and to become acquainted with its endemic Scalesia and Guayabillo forests. Having been met by an English-speaking naturalist guide at Baltra Airport, you will cross the narrow Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island, heading up to a farm in the highlands for a delicious lunch.
